At first, the actress-turned-club-owner seemed hesitant to comment on the movement.
“So, I don’t really have anything to say,” Lohan said. “I can’t speak on something I didn’t live, right? Look, I am very supportive of women. Everyone goes through their own experiences in their own ways.”
But Lohan went on to say she thinks that people who have been coming forward with their stories “look weak.”
“If it happens at that moment, you discuss it at that moment,” she said. “You make it a real thing by making it a police report. I’m going to really hate myself for saying this, but I think by women speaking against all these things, it makes them look weak when they are very strong women. You have these girls who come out, who don’t even know who they are, who do it for the attention. That is taking away from the fact that it happened.”
The #MeToo floodgates were opened in 2017 when women began accusing Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct. Since then, more than 50 women have come forward with allegations against Weinstein. Women have also come out with allegations against some of the most powerful figures in other industries , such as media and politics, including Matt Lauer, Texas congressman Blake Farenthold, and architect Richard Meier.
Amid the accusations against Weinstein, Lohan stood up for the producer .
“I feel very bad for HW right now I don’t think it’s right what’s going on. I think Georgina needs to take a stand and be there for her husband,” she said on an Instagram story in October. “He’s never wronged me or done anything to me and we’ve done several movies together. I think everyone needs to stop. It’s wrong, so stand up.”
Days later, Lohan walked back her comments in a since-deleted Instagram post, saying that she is for women’s empowerment.
A representative for Lindsay Lohan didn’t immediately return INSIDER’s request for comment.
